Discipline Based Reading Education

The most important area in education is teaching a child to read. Reading is the cornerstone and foundation of all education and learning. When a child masters reading and gains an enjoyment of this powerful skill, they have built a foundation on which they can learn any subject. Even the area of mathematics is based upon the ability to read each chapter and it's instructions. Reading and comprehension is a must. Developing good reading habits provides the pathway to understanding and knowledge.

Many public schools push the ability to score higher on reading tests rather than on vocabulary and comprehension. They teach them how to take a test. That may be well and dandy but still doesn't teach a child to beable to comprehend, understand and enjoy what they have read.

Areas of concentration:

  • Recognition

  • Recognition and learning all the letters of the alphabet to include their sounds.

  • Vocabulary
    Increase word knowledge base.

  • Comprehension

  • Understand what was read and communicated.
  1. What was the main idea in the story?
  2. Describe who, what, where, when and how and why?
  3. What was the message the author was trying to convey?
  4. Comment about the strory and how it relates to the world today.
